Catching the Eurostar to Calais early tomorrow morning, going to spend the day in Boulogne.
Next weekend we're going to Brussels (also on Eurostar). When I lived in Antwerp I only stopped in Brussels a few times so I'm not very familiar with the city (and my map is a little out of date). To anyone who has been or lives there, do you have any recommendations for restaurants or anything else we should see or do? We'll be there for the weekend.
Brussels, first Latin edition of volume I was published in 1572
I'd love to be heading off to Brussels. You lucky thing!!! Depending on the time you have you have to have a drink in the Café Metropole http://www.metropolehotel.be/EN/presentation_cafe.htm. Waiters in aprons and all that. Even if you don't have time you have to go there. Off the Grand Place there's a turkish coffee house where i got some baclava and turkish delight and there were people sitting on the floor having tea. If you're interested in animation/comics there's the Musee de la Bande Dessinée. i walked for an hour trying to find this and it was around the corner all the time.. thats life eh? Then there's all those beers (huge buckets of Hoegaarden or a smalll glass of Chimay Bleu or 2) , the Atomium and chocolate. Dammit, i want to go there now :(
I haven't yet had the chance to check it out (I was once only briefly in Brussels), but if you're interested in catching a gig while you're there, there's a venue, Botanique (Koningsstraat 236), which periodically hosts interesting stuff. The Legendary Pink Dots are there on Friday 2nd, and The Church on Saturday 3rd.
I don't really know the city well enough to be more helpful.
But have fun!
P.S. hello. :)
Your suggestion is certainly helpful and more than I know of the city. Hopefully I can meet up with an old friend who lives there as a guide, but if not I don't have much to go on. :) Sadly I've missed the The Legendary Pink Dots as we're going this weekend.
& fun I intend to have. :)
