Beautiful photograph of the Seattle Central Library interior by la_vie_en_rouge.

I'm envious. I wish London had a library even half as stylish. I can't wait to get back to Seattle to see it. :)

looking forward to seeing the photos. :)

I may hop the pond this summer if I get too homesick, but we're definitely visiting in nov. or dec.. not sure I can wait that long though.

A friend bought me a copy of Koolhaas' Content for my birthday. I haven't yet had the time to look at it properly, but it looks like a really interesting & cheap read; somewhat like a cross between magazine and book. There is also a section on the Seattle Central Library.

I think public libraries are more than overdue their share of some decent civic architecture. :)

That book looks great, I wonder if there's somewhere in town I can flip through it.

I agree, they've been stuck with mundane "safe" box-like buildings. The new library in my old home town, Anacortes, is pretty awesome too. I wonder if this is a wider trend across America? It surprises me they can afford it after Bush cut so much funding for public libraries.

I have to catch up on everyone's journals, I'm missing so much cool stuff! Great post about the library, the detailed description makes up for the lack of photos. :)

I'm most curious/excited about the "book spiral"!

I may go see it while I'm here. From the outside I don't like it.

Then again it's better than the new opera house in LA, so.... It may be swell on the inside.

I know it's not to everyone's taste, which is understandable!

However, I love it.. look forward to seeing it in person.

I don't know anything about the opera house in LA, did they make a mess of it?

Hi, stumbled upon your journal through Kiad. Just wanted to say you have a lot of awesome pictures that I admire, as a fellow photographer, though an amateur. Seems like you're having some interesting experiences in London. I crave such things! Need to get out and see as much of the world as possible..

Hello. :) Thank you, although I still consider myself "amateur" when it comes to photography.

London is an incredible city, I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to explore as much of it as my heart desires.

True, I do love the British Museum library and the surrounding building, but I don't feel quite as excited about it.. maybe it's just seeing my old home city spread it's wings and start to become a true modern world-class city that makes me like the SCL so much.

hi, I don't mind if you add me. I see we share the same birthday. :)

England is a wonderful country in many ways. I don't believe I've ever been to Kent, what brought you there?

Seattle is one of the few American cities I would ever wish to live in. I don't know how it would compare to LA because I've never been there, but there's a strong community feeling and underground music scene in Seattle that is very different from any other city I've been to.
