I'm at home right now and a little while ago there was a ring of the doorbell. It was the painter who has been painting the outside of our building, he greeted me in a thick Liverpool accent and asked if I was Irish (which I am always asked, in person and on the phone). I told him no, I'm American.

"Oh, did you vote?" he asked. I told him yes, and he asked if he could enquire who I voted for. "Kerry." A visible look of relief was on his face when he replied, "Oh thank God, I hate that Bush man!"

He asked who I thought would win and I told him I honestly didn't know to which he said, "I think Kerry will win."

Let's hope the Liverpudlian painter is correct.

Are you mistaken for being irish because of the red hair and/or the bottle of whiskey in your hand :)

I can see the whiskey being a dead giveaway in person, it must be the slurring my words that gives me away on the phone. ;)

My hair isn't that red, but I do have Irish ancestry.
