On Monday I joined my parents for sushi at Sentosa's to celebrate their eloping 14 years ago. Sake, miso soup, gen mai cha green tea, scallops in orange, ginger, and sesame sauce, port townsend roll, chili miso tempura shrimp roll, and ginger ice cream.

When I was looking for the Sentosa website (which is down right now) I came across a porn site called TastyShaved.com with the keywords "sentosa dream city catering port townsend washington." What the...?

After dinner we watched K-Pax at the Rose Theatre, where Rocky (the same who replied to my email) introduced the movie. They have a tradition there of giving out a door prize and reading facts and quotes about the movie beforehand. I think it makes the experience more personable and interesting.

Sentosa's, yum
I love Sentosa's. I've been there twice but actually never had the sushi; their noodle soups were just so delicious (and I'm not usually that wild about noodle soups.)

Congratulations to your parents!

I love their noodles as well. :) But I once had their "Seven Seasons" noodles with tuna and it was hard for me to stomach that much raw tuna in one go (their portions are very generous). I'm a wasabi junkie though so I usually have the rolls.

Thanks. I'm happy for them. :)

Ah, you're more like me, then. Diana, my wife, can't comprehend how, if raw fish is good, more raw fish wouldn't always be better. I'm always the first to cry "Uncle" during our sushi binges.

lol!

It's a texture issue for me. The taste was good, but something about the texture. I tried their eel too, that definitely was not my thing.

One dish I do recommend is their seared albacore tuna. The outside is cooked but the inside left raw. It's a more bearable balance for me.

It's revenge for making me miss Belgos. ;)

When I did a search for just "Sentosa" google gave me hundreds of hits, I didn't realize it was such a popular name.

Hehe I guess if they couldn't make it in New York there's not much hope for either of us. ;)

I watched a program in the UK about the owner of Belgo. They gave him a challenge to work for a day in his restaurants as a cook, a waiter, and a manager. He failed miserably, but he also realized he needed to make a lot of cuts in order to pay his UK workers proper wages because they were incredibly overworked. That is one reason why the NYC Belgo failed.

The fact the Mariko goes there all the time says something too. ;)

I have (actually, I should had now that it's been closed) a similiar little theater in my home town...It's a lovely way to watch a movie.

That is sad it is closed now. :( There used to be a beautiful old theatre in Spokane (Eastern
Washington)that I loved, but they tore it down. It caused a lot of controversy.

Thanks. :) That theatre is gorgeous. The walls on each side are covered in paintings and framed by red velvet curtains. It makes the whole experience feel special.

lol! Thank you. No, that's a new one for me. I've always admired her silky slinky dresses though.

Me as a blonde is an interesting concept. I would try it but I'm scared that the result would be decidedly un-Veronica Lake-ish. :)

all this talk has made me hungry
mere minutes from now, i'll be meeting up with an old friend from high school, whom i haven't seen since her wedding, six years ago. we'll be having sushi down at fuji, in the international district. i should ask the server, with a straight face, if they serve porn.

i haven't been to sentosa's ..

Hehe - on a dare, I once asked a server in a Mexican restaurant if the 'mole' on their menu had many bones in it.

i ended up opting against it. on the way in, i espied a "fishtian" on her vehicle, and inferred that she has ... changed ... over the years. i figured such a joke wouldn't be appreciated. the conversation revolved around safe topics, such as the antics of our pets, and the home that she and her husband will be buying.
