There is a painting my father made, and it is of a girl done in bright, vibrant colors. I've always loved it, but it sat in storage for several years until my 16th birthday, when he gave it to me. Gael gave me a big photo album with copies of photos she's taken of our friends and family over the years. They were both very thoughtful gifts, and it was the first and only time I've ever cried (with happiness) over gifts. (Not implying I've cried with disappointment at all my other gifts, of course. ;)
Anyway, I was just laying on my bed gazing at it and reminiscing, so I thought I'd share it with everyone. A friend took this photo last year with a digital camera, so the colors aren't exactly true, and he caught it at an odd angle so I had to crop some off, but it will have to do.
I've liked that picture since I first went to your house 2 years ago (whooo... 2nd anniversary ahoy!). The eyes are the bit that get me every time, like the pictures of your dad's at the grandparents house... especially the one of you :)
2 years! Wow. That rules. :)
Yeah, I've always loved the eyes in his paintings. They're one of his strongest points. He could very easily make the rest of the bodies more realistic, but that would take away from the impact the eyes have. But I wouldn't want a more "realistic" body anyway, what he does is his style, and I love it.
Hehe that watercolor of me at my grandparents is one of my favorites. I guess because I remember all the hours posing for it, and being 8 years old, I had to take many breaks to run around the house and burn off my fidgety energy.
Sometime you'll get to see the rest of his paintings. There's a lot I'd like to see again and show you.
first of all, that is a stellar picture!!! i can see why you were attached to it.
secondly, i am listening to Heaven or Las Vegas right now. i am making my friend a cocteau twins tape, as she is unfamiliar with them. after all these years, they are still my favorite. no one will ever top my Liz.
and lastly, you are currently the top person on my list of humans with simialr interests. myself excluded. (why do people put themselves on their friends list? just curious)
well, i wish you bliss...caio
Yeah, I'd put up pictures of all his work online if he'd let me. :)
I love Cocteau Twins, my parents got me into them at an early age. They have superb musical tastes, and I've gained most of my preferences from them. (And I can be proud of that!) I did recently get Gael (step-mom) listening to "Teardrops" by Massive Attack, in which Liz sings. She absolutely loves it.
Wow! I love your father's painting! I wish I had that sensitivity and passion. I glanced through your postings and feel I should make a list for the music store now. I'm always looking for treasures in that realm. Ever heard of artistdirect.com? It's fantastic for locating the difficult and impossible worldwide. I also just had to tell you you have the most haunting eyes. Don't worry, I'm not some stalker. Gael will vouch for my sincerity.
Mark! Wow I'm so glad you're on livejournal, Gael and I couldn't figure out who you were at first. :)
I have a fairly extensive music collection, if you'd like my mp3 list sometime let me know. (If you listen to mp3s).
And thanks for the compliment! *blush*
