I have been alive for a quarter of a century.

Thank you to those who remembered for your comments and emails, they brightened my day!

It was a laid back celebration -- a lovely sunny picnic in Richmond Park.

As I did with my Dad and Gael I've scanned photographs of my childhood. I don't have many as most reside in others' photo albums, but I thought I'd share the few I found. Looking over these photos I can say that I've lived my 25 years well and there is still so much more to come.

My friend Mariko wrote out the meaning of my name in Japanese.

August 17th, 1980

Peace, Victory, or The Two-Fingered Salute?

Spokane, WA. 1983

Spokane, WA. 1983

My grandfather, great-grandfather, and me.

Kobe Park in Seattle, below my mother's apartment in the First Hill area. 1984.

Spokane, WA. 1984

Halloween. Seattle. 1984

My mother was a goth in the early 80s so I raided her wardrobe for my Halloween costumes.

Halloween. Seattle. 1985

How did I fit those teeth in my mouth? That was my dog, Shire. She was a gorgeous saluki / whippet mix and was the still-born runt of the litter; my father brought her back to life.

Halloween. Spokane, WA. 1986

It was cold so my grandmother stuffed me into several sweaters and a big coat. I was sweltering. I was the fattest Cabbage Patch Kid ever.

(That's my grandfather laughing at me in the background.)

Sinclair Island, 1988

My parents put me in charge of taking care of the chickens, as a result they became quite tame around me. This rooster loved to ride on the handlebar of my bike; he would come running whenever I got it out. No kidding.

Sinclair Island, 1988.

Building a Barbie palace out of driftwood and shells.

Sinclair Island, 1988

As the flower girl at my parent's wedding.

Sinclair Island, 1989.

Doing my homework while my dad tended to the herb garden (note the chicken under my arm).

Sinclair Island, 1990

Eddie Bauer shot their catalogue on the island that year. They used me as a model. Why they thought I looked like the progeny of the blonde, chiseled male model and his female counterpart I will never know.

San Juan Islands, WA, 1990

Taking a trip on my grandparent's sailboat.

Anacortes, Wa. 1991

My best friend Becca and I on my grandparent's sailboat. She was the maid-of-honor at my wedding three years ago.

Lummi Island, 1994.

My cousin Peter, me, and my aunt Sharon (Gael's sister).

Victoria, B.C., Canada. 1996

My ex-bf took this photo of me. Several months later we were in a wreck together in the same car on an onramp for the 520 bridge into Seattle. The car flipped upside-down and nearly went over the barrier onto the highway below. The car was totaled (a brand new Honda Prelude) and we nearly were as well.

In my favorite apple tree.

Milan, Italy. 2003

Going to our friend Kamaljit's funeral. It was at a Sikh temple so I had to wear a scarf.

It was quite comforting wearing the scarf on my head, shame the only excuse I have is a Sikh funeral.

thank you. :)

But I digress, a very happy birthday to you. I wish you many more, if only so I can at least be at one to wish you a happy birthday in person ;)
