So I was up until 4am last night talking to Max while he tried to get any kind of reliable information out of United Airlines. He and his parents were supposed to catch a UA flight from London to Chicago and then Chicago to Seattle. First they told him everything would be fine. After more news reports of airports shutting down he called again, this time they said the London-Chicago flight was still okay, but the Chicago-Seattle flight was cancelled. Next time he called both had been cancelled. Everyone he talked to said something different, including one person who claimed they lost all their flight bookings. He called me today, his voice shaking with frustration.
Now the plan is that they leave in 4 hours for Heathrow to fly to Chicago. They will spend the night in Chicago and fly to Seattle on Sunday. That is if everything goes to plan, which I'm having little faith in right now, but I am hoping.
As much as I think they will be safe, I couldn't help feeling sick to my stomach when he said they were leaving for the airport in four hours. I doubt I'll be sleeping tonight.
Words at times like this seem so petty. Especially since you are someone I have never really held a conversation with, even on-line. However, I have enjoyed your words and your images, and I hope that they have a safe trip, and wish that there were more that I could do. I hope you are doing better by the time you read this.
I really do know the feeling. I never know what to say to someone in grief. To Galen all I can do is offer a shoulder, kind words, and love. Your caring means more to me than you may know, thank you so much.
I am, by the way, feeling a bit better. They have made it to Chicago and are spending the night, they should be here by noon tomorrow. Things seem to be going smoothly, for the most part.
Hang tight... Believe me I know it is rough.. i work for teh airline and I know they are sooo backed up. People have limited flights and security is still high.
Good Luck.. I know I am frazzled as well because I want to try and hope across from USA to UK, and there just arent enought planes to accomodate.
Today there were over 1500 people wanting to travel but on all BA's flights from Wash DC to London Heathrow they only had 800 seats. I dont think all airlines have been cleared for international travel in and out of US yet.
:( I am with you. Good luck.
The airlines all seemed to be in chaos, but I think the gears are starting up again and things are getting better.
Your comment really touched me, thank you for taking the time. They have made it to Chicago only an hour late and they are staying the night there. If everything goes to plan they should be here by tomorrow noon.
Thank you again. :)
I just flew from here to Thailand and returned yesterday, and it was completely fine.
It IS a little more freaky flying from or to the East Coast, and WITHIN the US, but tomorrow I am scheduled to fly from Portland OR to Chicago to Boston to Maine tomorrow morning and I'm sure it's going to be fine. No worries.
The worst thing is all the delays and changes, that's about it.
It will be OK.
Welcome to my friends list. I love pictures, so I'm sure I will enjoy your journal immensely, and I hope you find mine equally entertaining.
I'm glad everything went smoothly for you!
They said they didn't have any problems at all. I'm not frightened to fly, but I am grateful the planes are back in the air because unless I feel like taking a 2 week boat trip, it's the only way I can see my fiancé. ;)
I have a friend who has been in Thailand for the past year filming a documentary on the Asian elephant, it's called Panom. He just left to live there for 6 months to finish the project, he loved it there. I am looking forward to reading your entries about it. :)
