We finally got a router and a cable that would work with my pc. While offline I listened to a lot of NPR and watched a lot of PBS to keep me sane. It did remind me how dependant on technology Max and I are. We had become so accustomed to talking almost every afternoon and evening online, but we made up for it with long phone calls every day.
The move into our new house went smoothly. Moving the piano was a bit daunting, but we managed it in the end. We used boxes from the liquor store, so for several weeks it looked like we had one hell of a party. Almost everything is unpacked now and we've been enjoying this place immensely. I bought Bjork's Vespertine for "moving into a new house" theme music and it suits this place very well. Happy, light, calming. I love it here. We've already had a few small gatherings, but we'll be having a joint housewarming party with Alix (who lives above us) sometime soonish.
So much has happened since November that I'm not sure where to start. Xmas was good. Max sent me a lovely bouquet of flowers on Xmas eve. I also received a brand new sewing machine from my grandmother, which is something I've been wanting for a long time. She was very generous this year. Her and my grandfather made a little pact that if my grandfather drank more than twice a week he would give her $20 for each drink. She bought most of our presents with that money, including a scanner and digital camera for herself. Now the whole family is encouraging him to drink more. ;)
Some friends from Anacortes joined us at Siren's for New Years. It was a 1920's theme, but I couldn't figure out an outfit so I just bought a dress from work. Gael's co-worker, Kirsten, really looked the part. I will post photos of her and the evening when I can.
About my photos.. Max's friend, Mustafa, has been hosting all my photos. In November he started trying to fix something on the server and it was only supposed to be down for a few days. Now a month later it's still down, so I'm afraid all my photos are inaccessible until he fixes it. I have hundreds of new photos to post that I've taken recently and ones from the past that I never posted, so I hope it's up again soon.
Work has been going very well. I worked a couple 7 day 8 hour weeks and am saving up some money for a nicer digital camera. I'm also slowly working on re-building my cd collection again. Recently I bought Pink Martini Sympathique, Sigur Ros (I had the mp3s before), Cibo Matto Viva! La Woman, Cornershop When I Was Born For The 7th Time, and Violent Femmes. I've also received an excellent compilation cd from Snej as a Xmas present. He put together a beautiful cd, many groups that I had never heard before, but now I have come to love. It's all very fluid and ambient Brian Eno-ish. I've had it on repeat often these past few weeks.
I have a lot more to tell, but I'll save it for another post. I'm trying to catch up on all my email and livejournal. I doubt I'll ever catch up on livejournal fully, so forgive me if I missed something important.
It feels a little strange to be online again, it probably felt longer than it actually was. I hope you are all well. :)
"Moving the piano was a bit daunting, but we managed it in the end. We used boxes from the liquor store"
I am visualizing you sawing the piano into pieces the size of a liquor box, then reassembling it in the new apartment. (I guess this is because I am a geek who works all day long with stuff where you can do tricks like that.)
I'm glad you like my CD. I have to confess I get all warm and happy when people praise things that I make. Clearly I haven't been studying the Tibetan Buddhism seriously enough. ;-)
Well Hello ! :-) Nice to see you on here again after so much internet time has passed! I wondered how you got on with the house move - it sounds like you managed it all very well. I'm going to have to check up on all the music you mentioned - out of curiosity as well as keeping up to date with the latest interesting offerings...
I heard you & Max met. Wish I could have been there, but
when I am back in London I hope we can all meet together sometime.
It's been almost 6 years since I've sewn anything, since I didn't
have a decent machine. I have several saris that Max's mother
gave me that I've been dying to make into something. Not until I
practice on other cloth first, though. ;)
